PAMM is now open!

“RSI built the most complicated concrete frame I’ve ever seen. Not only was it complicated structurally but it had to look great. RSI delivered a fantastic result. We are glad they were on our team.”- John Leete president of John Moriarty of Florida.

The new Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) opened in December 2013 with 200,000 square feet of programmable space for the display of works of art, educational activities, relaxation and dining. At nearly three times the size of the former Miami Art Museum, PAMM is a modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting 20th and 21st century international art. The new building houses approximately 1,800 objects, nearly 500 of which were acquired in 2013 to celebrate the increased display space. Much of the museum’s current collection has been donated, with 110 works coming from Jorge M. Pérez.

Construction began in November 2010 on the new museum, with RSI handling the architectural concrete for the structure. As highlighted in the video below, taken by Museum Director Thom Collins, the pouring of the concrete was especially important in this project because seamless architectural concrete lines were integral to Herzog & De Meuron’s architectural design.

The museum’s exterior includes polished and bush-hammered concrete walls and a trellis system, and the interior includes galleries with exposed architectural concrete walls and columns.  Throughout the museum, the design called for wide-open spaces, minimizing the need for columns or other supports, and RSI accomplished this using a Cobiax structural system.

RSI worked closely with the general contractor, John A. Moriarty & Associates, to ensure on-time completion of the concrete for the project.
